Moxii
Moxii
Moxii was born a premature but healthy baby in 2021. After spending two months in the NICU in order to grow, she was discharged home. Moxii had been home two months before she was found unresponsive and taken to the hospital. Testing concluded she had new and old areas of brain bleeds, severe bilateral retinal hemorrhages, and intractable seizures. She was sent to a higher level of care hospital where it was concluded she had been shaken on more than one occasion by a biological parent.
Moxii defied the odds against her in surviving her initial injury and spent nine weeks in the hospital fighting to stabilize and begin to breathe and eat on her own.
Moxii was released to her resource family (now adoptive family) who committed to providing Moxii with endless love and access to her extensive medical and rehabilitative needs.
Now three years old, Moxii is a beautiful, engaging, and resilient toddler who continues to gain skills and defy the odds. Every day remains a challenge for Moxii: she cannot walk independently, she is nonverbal, and she cannot eat foods safely. However she progresses at her own pace and has an incredible team of therapists, doctors, specialists, family and friends who provide her with an abundance of love and support.
